Why Your Charleston, SC Heat Pump Says It’s in Recovery Mode

The temperatures are dropping and your Charleston, SC heat pump is working overtime to keep your home warm. But you keep seeing it indicate it’s in recovery mode and not warming your house as it should. Here are the reasons your heat pump might be in recovery mode.

1. It’s Trying to Attain the Programmed Temperature

If your HVAC system uses smart thermostat settings or has your HVAC system on a schedule, it will enter recovery mode more frequently. This is because the HVAC system is trying to reach the temperature you programmed it for. While in recovery mode, your HVAC system may work harder and use more energy to reach the programmed temperature.

2. It’s the Wrong Size

If your HVAC system was sized properly, it shouldn’t have to work too hard to maintain a comfortable temperature. So, if your heat pump is frequently going into recovery mode, it could indicate that it’s not sized correctly for your home. A too-large heat pump will turn on and off more frequently, causing it to enter recovery mode more often.

3. It’s Responding to Your Behavior

If you keep changing the temperature on your thermostat, your HVAC system will enter recovery mode more frequently. That’s because it has to adjust the temperature to meet your needs continually. If you have difficulty keeping the temperature in one setting, you might consider getting a programmable thermostat.

4. It’s in Eco Mode

Some heat pumps have a feature called “Economy Mode” or “Eco Mode.” This mode saves energy by operating the HVAC system at a lower capacity.

When the HVAC system is in Eco Mode, it will enter recovery mode more frequently. This is because the HVAC system is working to reach the programmed temperature.

If you’re concerned about your heat pump entering recovery mode too frequently and not heating as required, contact M & B Heating and Air. We can help you troubleshoot the issue and determine if there’s a problem with your heat pump.
